O paradoxo do Hamas : democracia vs terrorismo?

O paradoxo que o Hamas vive – e que serve de mote a este artigo – não é mais do que o resultado da combinação das várias visões do mundo em relação a si próprio. Os diversos actores, regionais e internacionais, influenciam teórico-historicamente o Movimento da Resistência Islâmica na sua ideologia e na sua conduta. As eleições de 25 de Janeiro de 2006 ditaram, democraticamente, a vitória do Hamas. Valeu-lhe, claramente, a sua boa imagem forjada por obras sociais dignas da inveja do Fatah, então desacreditado aos olhos da maioria do eleitorado. No entanto, pela fidelidade do Movimento da Resistência Islâmica ao seu Pacto de 1988, onde incluía, entre outros, o não reconhecimento de Israel, o mundo condenou o partido e coagiu o presidente da AP à acção. Knowledge-intensive business services and innovation performance in Brazil

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to identify the way different economic sectors in Brazil use knowledge-intensive business services (KIBS) and explore which features of KIBS use are associated with better innovation outcomes. Design/methodology/approach – Clusters and regression analyses were used to analyze data from the national innovation survey (PINTEC) from 2014. Findings – The results show that most of the 55 sectors of the Brazilian economy studied make little use of KIBS, but industries in which firms that interact with KIBS providers also have better innovation performance and offer more innovative offerings. The relationship with higher education institutions and research institutes proved particularly relevant, while the interaction with consultancy firms seems to be a strategy that leaves firms “stuck in the middle”. Originality/value – The outcomes confirm the arguments of the literature that the use of KIBS has positive outcomes for customer firms. More importantly, however, the paper complements the existing literature by showing that the type of KIBS used in each country is relevant to understand firms’ innovation performance. The outcomes can guide firms and public policy initiatives oriented at the articulation of the national innovation system

El rol de Brasil en la creación y evolución de UNASUR como proyecto posneoliberal. Un análisis a partir del concepto de soft power

La búsqueda de una integración latinoamericana se ha visto obstaculizada históricamente por la reticencia de los Estados a ceder soberanía a instancias supranacionales, y por la constante competencia entre los mismos. No obstante, la Unión de Naciones Suramericanas (UNASUR) surge como proyecto de integración regional alterno al modelo neoliberal existente en la zona, con el especial protagonismo de Brasil en su creación y posterior evolución debido a ciertos intereses de carácter hegemónico que el país buscó materializar a través de la Unión. En este sentido, mediante el concepto de soft power, el objetivo del presente proyecto investigativo se centra en analizar la manera mediante la cual Brasil buscó aprovechar la creación y evolución de tal mecanismo de integración como plataforma para posicionarse como líder pos neoliberal en América del Sur durante el mandato de Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.The search for a Latin American integration has historically been obstructed by the reluctance of states to transfer sovereignity to supranational instances, and the constant competition between them. Nevertheless, the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) arise as an alternative project of regional integration to the existing neoliberal model in the area, with the special role of Brazil in its creation and evolution due to certain hegemonic interests that the country sought to materialize through the Union. In this sense through the concept of soft power, the aim of this research project is to analyze the way in which Brazil sought to take advantage of the creation and evolution of such integration mechanism as a platform to position itself as post-neoliberal leader in South America under President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.Universidad del Rosari

Desconstruindo o Direito: elementos para uma práxis jurídica emancipatória

Direito.Busco com esta pesquisa investigar a possibilidade de desenvolvimento de uma práxis jurídica emancipatória a partir do desconstrutivismo derridiano. Para tanto, delineio no capítulo inaugural a faceta discursiva e sociocultural do Direito, ressaltando o paradigma racionalista que o caracteriza na atualidade através de uma breve retomada da Teoria Pura do Direito de Hans Kelsen, e apontando para algumas das características que permitem uma abordagem desconstrutivista desse Direito. No segundo capítulo, exponho os fundamentos da teoria e do método desconstrutivista e com eles abordo o paradigma racionalista do Direito. Ao final dessa parte, exponho acerca da importância e da premência de se instrumentalizar o Direito para propósitos emancipatórios, tema que se aprofunda no capítulo final.With this research I investigate the possibility of developing a deconstructive approach to Law that may render it instrumental to a politically emancipatory legal praxis. In order to do that, in the first chapter of this work I delineate the discursive and sociocultural aspect of Law, highlighting its grounds on the scientific paradigm by briefly examining Hans Kelsen’s Pure Theory of Law and then pointing towards the main aspects that allow such deconstructive approach of Law. In the second chapter, I revisit the core fundamentals of the deconstructive theory and method and through them I approach the scientific paradigm of the legal studies and practice. In conclusion to that chapter, I develop on the importance and urgency of approaches to Law that enable politically emancipatory readings and practices of the discipline, a theme which is further developed in the closing chapter

The determinants of trade credit: a study of portuguese industrial companies

Despite the relevance of trade credit as a source of business financing, the topic is far from being considered exhausted, especially because there is no general and integrated theory explaining the causes and consequences of trade credit.Our research aims to contribute towards the literature that studies the determinants for granting and receiving trade credit. In this sequence, the present study seeks to empirically test some theories about the reasons why companies grant and receive commercial credit. For this purpose we apply a fixed effect model to a panel of 11 040 Portuguese industrial companies, of which 360 are large companies and the majority 10 680 are Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) for the period between 2003 and 2009. We conclude that large companies (with greater access to credit market) serve as financial intermediaries to their clients with less access to finance. In addition, it was observed that the supplier companies use trade credit as a legal means of price discrimination. Finally, financially constrained enterprises, especially in times of financial crisis, use commercial credit as an alternative source of funding, endorsing the hypothesis of substitution between trade credit and bank credit

Dos Oito aos 80: promoção de hábitos alimentares saudáveis

Anais do 35º Seminário de Extensão Universitária da Região Sul - Área temática: SaúdeOs hábitos alimentares saudáveis devem ser iniciados desde os primeiros anos de vida e devem perpetuar-se até a velhice. O aprender e (re) aprender hábitos saudáveis no cotidiano implicam na melhoria da qualidade de vida. Tem como objetivo promover a degustação de frutas e oleaginosas com crianças e idosos por meio de uma atividade educativa. Realizou-se uma atividade desenvolvida com 30 crianças com idades de 8 à 10 anos e 20 idosos de 68 a 83 anos, em suas respectivas escolas e no Núcleo de Estudos da Terceira Idade. A atividade iniciava com uma conversa sobre os hábitos alimentares e depois uma dinâmica denominada “Caixa Misteriosa”, onde as crianças e os idosos, com os olhos vendados, eram convidados a degustar um pedaço de fruta ou oleaginosa e apenas através do olfato, tato e paladar tentavam identificar o que estavam comendo. Resultados: Quando a atividade é desenvolvida com as crianças observa-se que as mesmas são curiosas e gostam de novos desafios, mesmo verbalizando o não hábito ou o não apresso pela fruta ou oleaginosa degustada, porém experimentam e fazem comentários. Com os idosos não foi muito diferente, também se sentiram motivados, curiosos e desfiados. Chamou a atenção à dificuldade dos mesmos de identificar o sabor do que estavam degustando. Tira-se como conclusão disso que as atividades educativas são formas de desenvolver a promoção da saúde nos diversos cenários de cuidado à saúde, assim como nas diversas faixas etárias da população. A enfermagem tem como um dos compromissos com a comunidade a promoção dos hábitos alimentares saudáveis para que os mesmos sejam estimulados, mantidos e ressignificados ao longo da história de vida das pessoa

VisMashup: streamlining the creation of custom visualization applications

Journal ArticleVisualization is essential for understanding the increasing volumes of digital data. However, the process required to create insightful visualizations is involved and time consuming. Although several visualization tools are available, including tools with sophisticated visual interfaces, they are out of reach for users who have little or no knowledge of visualization techniques and/or who do not have programming expertise. In this paper, we propose VISMASHUP, a new framework for streamlining the creation of customized visualization applications. Because these applications can be customized for very specific tasks, they can hide much of the complexity in a visualization specification and make it easier for users to explore visualizations by manipulating a small set of parameters. We describe the framework and how it supports the various tasks a designer needs to carry out to develop an application, from mining and exploring a set of visualization specifications (pipelines), to the creation of simplified views of the pipelines, and the automatic generation of the application and its interface. We also describe the implementation of the system and demonstrate its use in two real application scenarios
